Day 10 Blue sky, fantastic sailing direct to Horta 820 miles to go .
Still sailing at 7 kn so now only 1000 kn to go to Horta. Staying North seems to have paid off……..but later things go bump in the night! Milanto hits something but all on board thank Nautor Swan. All appears 100%!
Next day they check once more, still not a sign so presume it was either a large log or a whale -we’ll never know! Now down to 852 n. miles .
Position at 14:00 UTC 32 38 N 44 94 W
Well so far 3 fish have got away…….! But on the good side today Milanto reached 1/2 way despite the poor wind in the last few days , so a celebratory gin and tonic was mixed and thoroughly enjoyed along with some great jazz. Then the evening followed with homemade lasagne and a wonderful nutella, coconut, mascarpone + savoiardi biscuit pudding -thanks to the tireless skipper VB !
Wind unfortunately dropped significantly but the weather is beautiful. The total distance from Antigua to the Azores is 2300 nautical miles so getting close to half way now.All well on board and avidly reading a strange combination of news from Chelsea’s success in Europe football to chemical warfare in Syria.
Position at 19:00 U.T.C 27 25 N 52 00 W 1347 to go
Briefly the highlight was a wonderful 10 kg dorade which was delicious though several steaks are now in the freezer. The weather is certainly cooler, Milanto has left the Caribbean and the Tropics behind. A cloudy day but the sea is settling .
Position at 11:30 U.T.C 25 21 N 55 12 W 1560 miles to go
So the wind is still blowing a constant 20 knots, and the waves just won’t give up…..but the sun is shining so some of the crew have finally surfaced and are finding their sea legs at last helped by a hearty lentil stew and are asking about the world news so all is back to normal ! Milanto keeping a good speed but still being battered by the waves so no one is sun bathing right now.
Position at 10:00 U.T.C 23 04 N 57 06 W course 30 degrees . Attached is a forecast for 12:00 U.T.C
Milanto left Falmouth Harbour,Antigua in the am Saturday. The weather was beautiful as you can see from the video:

But 2 days later the weather has not been easy on those less used to heading east from the Caribbean! It is the usual wind and waves on the nose and none too comfortable, but the forecast does suggest that both will become more acceptable shortly. Until then thanks to the pressure cooker all on board and managing to eat.
